In 1814, Hokusai was a painter renowned throughout Japan. He lived with his daughter O-Ei in the city of Edo (now Tokyo), spending most of their time shut away in their strange, slum-like studio. The “madman of drawing”, as he liked to call himself, and his daughter worked together to create works that are now famous throughout the world. O-Ei, an independent young woman with a love of freedom, contributed to this incredible artistic saga in her father's shadow.
